Highlights include handwritten notes and drafts of his critically acclaimed “Infinite Jest,” the earliest appearance of his signature “David Foster Wallace” on “Viking Poem,” written when he was six or seven years old, a copy of his dictionary with words circled throughout and his heavily annotated books by Don DeLillo, Cormac McCarthy, John Updike and more than 40 other authors.

It was a big older fellow with a seamed face and picket teeth. He wasn’t from any Tingle that Lane Dean had ever observed from his own. He had part of his bottom on the edge of Lane’s desk and was cleaning under his thumbnail with a straightened-out paper clip and speaking softly. You could see an undershirt under his shirt; he wore no tie. He kept moving his upper body around in a slight kind of shape or circle, and the movements left a little bit of a visual trail. None of the wigglers in either adjoining row were paying attention to him. Dean checked the little face in the photo to make sure he wasn’t still dreaming.

Ένας καλός συγγραφέας, τη δουλειά τού έχω γνωρίσει μόνο μέσα από τα περιοδικά, αυτοκτόνησε σήμερα. Το κύριο χαρακτηριστικό της δουλειάς του ήταν το υπόγειο χιούμορ. Διάβασε το καλύτερο βιβλίο του, Infinite Jest.

Τον βρήκε η γυναίκα του κρεμασμένο στο σπίτι τους όταν επέστρεψε από τα ψώνια. Ήταν 46 χρονών.
