Mιας και είστε εξειδικευμένοι στο είδος ήθελα να σας ειδοποιήσω για Τα Πρωινά Μετά – ένα πείραμα γραφής που κάνω κάτω από την πρωτοβουλία National Novel Writing Month 09 (NaNoWriMo). Ελπίζω ότι δεν θα θεωρήσετε το e-mail spam.

Στόχος του NaNoWriMo είναι οι συμμετέχοντες να γράψουν ένα μυθιστόρημα 50.000 λέξεων από την 1η μέχρι την 30η Νοεμβρίου. Η λογική των διοργανωτών είναι ότι όλοι οι επίδοξοι συγγραφείς αγχώνονται τόσο με την τελειότητα και τις κατάλληλες λέξεις που τελικά δεν τελειώνουν ποτέ μια ιστορία. Το NaNoWriMo ενθαρρύνει τους συμμετέχοντες απλά να γράψουν χωρίς να σκέφτονται το τέλειο αποτέλεσμα έτσι ώστε να τελειώσουν την ιστορία τους. Νικητές είναι όλοι όσοι καταφέρουν να γράψουν 50.000 λέξεις.

Τα Πρωινά Μετά είναι η ιστορία μιας παρέας. 15 χρόνια πριν τρία αγόρια και ένα κορίτσι γνωρίστηκαν καπνίζοντας στο παρκάκι σε κάποια γειτονιά του Πειραιά – 15 χρόνια μετά επιστρέφουν για το γάμο του ενός. Όσο η ώρα του μυστηρίου πλησιάζει, τόσο η αδυσώπητη σκληρότητα που έχουν δείξει ο ένας στον άλλον στο παρελθόν βγαίνει στην επιφάνεια.

Τα Πρωινά Μετά γράφονται μέσα στο Νοέμβριο από την αφεντιά μου και δεν είναι και βέβαιο ότι θα τα καταφέρω να τα ολοκληρώσω. Το ενδιαφέρον είναι ότι δημοσιεύω αποσπάσματα στο blog μου και στην αντίστοιχη σελίδα στο facebook και μέσα από αυτά τα ‘μέρη’ – όπως επίσης και άλλες υπηρεσίες όπως twitter και friendfeed – έχω βοηθηθεί πάρα πολύ και από άποψη υποστήριξης και από άποψη ενθάρρυνσης. Ενώ δηλαδή η συγγραφή χαρακτηρίζεται ως μία πολύ μοναχική ασχολία φίλοι – γνωστοί και εντελώς άγνωστοι δείχνουν ενδιαφέρον, συζητάνε τους χαρακτήρες και τα μέρη για τα οποία γράφω και μου δίνουν πληροφορίες όταν τις χρειάζομαι ή φωτογραφίες από μέρη που αναφέρω. Οι συζητήσεις online γύρω από το πείραμα και την ιστορία μου είναι ανεκτίμητες και ίσως δείχνουν έναν εναλλακτικό τρόπο γραφής που μπορεί να βοηθήσει τον παραδοσιακά μοναχικό γραφιά.

Μιας και σας διαβάζω τακτικά σκέφτηκα ότι ίσως θα σας ενδιέφερε και η προσπάθεια αλλά και η διαδικασία.

Back in 2005, right after Hurricane Katrina, a group came together in New Orleans and elsewhere, and they interviewed New Orleanians about their experiences before, during and after the storm. The book became Voices from the Storm, edited by Chris Ying and Lola Vollen, and one of the narrators in that book was Abdulrahman Zeitoun.

Right after the book came out, I was in New Orleans to visit the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts—this incredible high school for the arts—and while I was in town I met up with Abdulrahman and his wife Kathy. We started talking, and pretty soon it was clear that there was a lot more to his story than we’d been able to cover in Voices from the Storm.

When the Fight Club movie was going into production, I quit my job so I could write full-time. I needed something that would get me out of bed really early in the morning so I started volunteering at a homeless soup kitchen. People didn’t know who I was or why I was there, so they started inventing stories about me. I was a registered sex offender and I’d just been released from prison and was being forced to do community-service work. I was a murderer, an arsonist – all these horrific things had been projected on me because no one knew what to make of this white guy who showed up and made toast at 5 o’clock every morning.

Η DC Comics τελείωσε τον Μπάτμαν στο Detective Comics 853 (θα επιστρέψει στο μέλλον με ένα reboot) με μια ιστορία που έγραψε ο Νιλ Γκέιμαν, και θα κυκλοφορήσει σε βιβλίο τον Ιούλιο. Διάβασε την ωραία συνέντευξη που έδωσε στο Wired εδώ.

Continuity isn’t actually something that I ever worry about. You use it where you need to, and you don’t use it where you don’t need to. It’s a given that we exist in a world where we have to live in continuity every day; no one is immune to that, in life or romance novels. By the same token, it’s not something I find terribly important.

The joy of this Batman story is that there were 70 years of Batman and I wanted to try and talk about all of it. Alan’s last Superman story is every bit as readable as it was in 1985, and it doesn’t actually matter that nobody remembers the Luthor/Brainiac team any more, or even necessarily remembers the typical Superman trope of squeezing coal into diamonds. None of that matters, because it is a glorious story.

The person who says «Enough innovation, let’s stick with what we have and never change» is pretty much the sworn enemy of all art.
